Jumu, originally launched by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as Know How Academy, was created in May 2020 to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing online training aimed at building their resilience. By 2023, over 20,000 unique users from more than 30 countries had used the platform to access its learning materials.

In September 2024, ownership of the website was transferred from the EBRD to the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), and the platform was renamed Jumu. The interface and content were updated, while maintaining the focus on delivering effective online training for SMEs.

The name Jumu comes from the Swahili word "Jumuiya", meaning "Community". This reflects our ongoing mission to build a supportive, inclusive, and global learning community.
